Sustainable Design

This concept was developed in conjunction with the local aboriginal community in Weipa- Far North Queensland. The intention of the project and design was to utilize the timber extracted from the mining exploration to be re-used to build new local residential units for the indigenous community. A 2 bedroom duplex elevated on block piers with timber trussed flooring system , louvered panel walls and trussed roof. To suit the climate and the lifestyle.

All the timber members to be cut on site (a saw mill was to be built as part of the project so the locals could have access to  the skill development and training project associated with the concept. All together 22 set of duplex was to be built.

The structural members were designed to be made of small pieces and put together as trussed systems. Roof and floors. Wall to be made of timber louvers panels.
